Gloucester Ski Club Enjoy the Welsh Winter Race League at Pembrey!

The final round of the Pembrey Race League was held last Saturday.  It was a very friendly atmosphere and skiers and snowboarders of all ages and abilities had alot of fun.

Gloucester was well represented with 2 teams this time round.  It is run in the same format as the Summer Race League ie. 2 timed runs then 3 dual slalom runs.

Gloucester 1 was represented by Alasdair Holbourn, Emily Goddard, Jessica Peacock, Tim Dannatt and Ollie Stokes

Gloucester 2 was represented by Rowan Vernon, Georgia Hallett, Henry McCarthy, Richard Lambden and Gemma Dannatt.  This team was different from the second round as some of the original team could not make it.  i.e. George and Jonathon Brough and Austin Rose.

Sarah Lambden entered as an individual but was put in another team.

As on the two previous evenings there was excellent racing and the dual slaloms provided the usual determination amongst the competitors and also the thrills and spills that come with it.  There were no serious injuries and the evening was a real success.

In this league, the individual awards were for the non - registered racers and Gloucester featured amongst the medals.  Ollie Stokes although only able to compete in 2 of the 3 races took bronze in Class A.  Henry McCarthy, also only took part twice but won bronze in Class B, while Jonathon Brough went one better, taking silver in class C.

The team event was fiercely contested and on the final evening, due to some very tight head to head skiing the Gloucester 1 team moved up from 4th place to take the bronze medal.

In terms of individual overall results, our seeded racers achieved success too.  In the females, Emily Goddard was 4th but the real honours must go to Jessica Peacock who was right behind Emily in 5th position, due to her grit and determination in the head to heads winning 8 out of 9 of these duals, over the three evenings.

In the male event Tim Dannatt took 6th place overall and made the biggest contribution to the team gaining third place.  Alasdair Holbourn finished in eighth place.

Swansea Nomads worked hard to put on this first Winter Race League that was well supported.  We hope they will do it all again !
