Gloucester take top points and overall lead - SRL Sept 2009

The A team scored a whopping 246 points to take 1st place overall and establish a clear lead of 29 points from Midland Hawks and a further 7 from Western Counties.  SLP sit in 4th some 67 points off the mark.

Captain Bea led a super team to a triumph on the day with 246….yes 246 points. Gloucester B is leading all the other B teams in a fantastic 7th place.

In the morning races we scored 51 points in the under 12 and 71 points in the under 15. The 10 racers of Gloucester A team placements were from 1st to 6th. Tom and Harry won their age group and Matt and Sam came second. This shows how the Gloucester ski club teams have improved during the last five races in the Summer League with their individual results but most of all with their team spirit. By the end of the morning races we had 176 points and we were leading Midland Hawks by 31, Western Counties by 8 and Slalom Plus by 5. With this in mind could the afternoon get any better? Yes it could.

On the first round of dual slalom Gloucester A scored all the 26 possible points available; this was followed by 24 point on the second round and 20 on the third. Ethan, Tom, Alex Wright, Sam, Ben, Jack and David won all their 3 races in the afternoon duals. Alex Owen and Matt gave everybody some good entertainment in their race, Matt winning by a whisker.

There were some very good performances from the athletes in the B team; David Caswell is racing well after recovering from a nasty broken thumb and Paolo found an extra gear racing with David’s doomed skis.

The support for Gloucester was led by Emily at the bottom of the slope and could be heard all the way to the top. One more race to go on the 17th of October and we need all the racers and support we can get and have a good shot at winning the Summer League.
