Criteria for coaching groups
Progression within the club is through the following groups.
FOUNDATION
Skiers must satisfy all of the following criteria:
- Be able to snowplough from the top of the slope, and have the ability to control speed and direction
- Be able to use the lift unassisted
- Be mature enough to work in the club training environment, although there is no minimum age limit
- Know the sections of the Skiway Code relevant to dry slope training
DEVELOPMENT 1
Skiers must satisfy all of the following criteria:
- Be able to ski with good body position most of the time (arms fairly wide and high, legs constant shoulder width, upper body same angle as shins, head up)
- Be able to traverse the slope with their skis parallel, and be able to keep the skis parallel though the turn or have a strong carving snowplough
- Be able to perform basic warm-up exercises, with control of speed and direction (running, jumping, etc)
- Understand the need for flexion and extension
- Be comfortable skiing a Summer Race League style training course
- Understand why performing the basics well is vital to higher performance skiing
- Successfully completed Snowlife award level 4 with the club
DEVELOPMENT 2
Skiers must satisfy 6 out of 7 of the following criteria and be committed to following an agreed programme:
- Be able to ski with good body posture all of the time, including feet/knees constant width, flexing leg joints, separation at the hips, hand/arm carriage, level shoulders)
- Be able to control speed and direction with smooth, skidded parallel turns
- Be able to perform standard warm-up exercises, under control, with skis carving and skidding (running, jumping, etc)
- Be able to carve a Summer Race League style course
- Be fit and able enough to perform constant speed short swing turns from stage 2 on the slope
- Be interested in, or already participating in, racing beyond Summer Race League level (excluding E.S.SKI A)
- Successfully completed Snowlife award level 6
PERFORMANCE 1
The following 4 requirements are compulsory:
- Be a member of their governing body
- Be actively racing in "nationally organised" events during the artificial slope season
- Be a committed skier/racer and follow an agreed programme
- Coaches report
Technical skiing aspect, satisfy 3/4 requirements(The technical aspects below must be carried out with good body posture, which includes hand/arm carriage, feet/legs apart and general body position):
- Linked carved arcs over a variety of turns and terrain
- Linked javelin turns
- Linked Charleston turns/white pass turns
- To perform the bais foundation exercises, i.e. jumping/running/skating/short swings, etc to a high standard and be committed to these exercises
PERFORMANCE 2
One of the following criteria must be satisfied:
Seed points (BARTS), Male below 90, Female below 50
Or
A member of either English/Welsh/Scottish Alpine or Artificial Squad
Or
A member of the HN or British Alpine Team
Or
A member of the British Childrens Team
Or
A former member of any of the above Teams
